  • All rounds up to and including the semi-finals have play by dates and all matches should be played on or before these dates.
  • The competition finals will be played between 5th and 14th April 2022 and all competitors must make themselves available during this period.  Details of the finals will be published once the semi-finals have been completed, 27th March 2022.

Arnie Lewis RIP

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the passing of Arnie Lewis.

Arnie passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 1st June, after a long illness.

Arnie was well known and respected throughout the bowling community and will be missed by us all, both as a friend and as a fellow bowler.  He was a founding member of Camberley and District IBC, and also bowled at Watchetts BC and Camberley BC for many years.  He was Surrey County Indoor Bowling Association President in 2012-13, and served the county in various other roles, most recently as Over 60s Team Manager

Our thoughts are with his family, his son Roger, his daughter Jenny and his grandchildren at this sad time.

Club Closed until at least 16 December 2020

Surrey Heath is currently in Covid Tier 2 (High Alert) and as a result the regulations will not allow league matches to be played because all players on a rink must belong to the same family/bubble.  As a result the club is currently closed.

This decision will be reviewed once the government has completed its review of the Covid Tiers which is due to take place on 16 December.

Club Competitions and Christmas Closure

A reminder to those of you playing in Club Competitions that the first round closing date for some of the Men’s, Mixed and Open Competitions (i.e. 19th January) is rapidly approaching and no extensions will be given.

Everyone is also reminded that the Club will be closed from 24 December until 1st January.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas.

The draws for the Club Competitions 2019-20 have now been made and are available on the web-site at Bowls Activities > Competitions > Club Competition Draws > Club Competition Draws 2019-20.

They can also be accessed by clicking on this link.

Gary Jones has advised the following about the draws:

  • The draw for the internal competitions was conducted on Fri 15 Nov 19 at the club.  The numbers were drawn by Chris Cranham, Karen Cranham and John Steer.
  • There is only one entry for the Novice Pairs so this competition will not be run.
  • There are only 2 entries for the ladies novice competition but I will let them play on the finals weekend as they have made the effort to enter.
  • There were 4 skips for the ladies drawn fours but only three teams so, the skips were drawn first then the teams which means that one team has two ladies who were nominated as skips.
  • An extra lady is required for the drawn pairs to play with C Davies.

Message from the President, Alan Jones

Welcome to all of you to another year of indoor bowling at Camberley. We have a new caterer. Lee Allen of Allen’s Bespoke Catering took over in the summer. He has already begun providing meals and drinks. Jolly good too! Please give him your support.

As to bowls we have in the region of 170 league teams registered for the winter season. If you are looking for a team or a player, please make use of the league sheets in the binder placed near the reception. Please also be alert to possible league changes at the end of the year. The bowling committee will be proposing changes to meet suggestions made in the recent surveys. This may include an Australian pairs’ league as well as a two wood triples league. There may be a special league for new bowlers and a special club evening. Please be alert to your email inbox and notices in the foyer.

This year the friendlies have been organised for us by John Twyford. If you wish to play, make sure you put your name down in good time on the player availability sheets in the foyer.

This year Steve Bone is our club captain and he will take overall charge of selection of players. Please give him your support especially if he seeks a match captain for the day – not an onerous task. Evelyn Morley takes over from Audrey Ingram in looking after the ladies matches and Arnie Lewis retains charge of the men’s Surrey League matches and external Club Team Competitions. Again, if you are interested in playing in these matches please make sure you put your name down on the player availability sheets in the foyer.

Gary Jones will be continuing in the role of competition secretary after a successful year last year and Will Matthews has agreed to run the Easter Tournament again after the successful event, he ran last year. Please give these events your support.

Alan and Linda Edwards continue to run the regular fun drives so do join those for some good friendly matches. Please give them your full support.

Finally, but by no means least, my sincere thanks to Caroline Kerr, Trevor Prentice, John Steer and Roger Spinks, your other representatives on the bowling committee who have volunteered their time helping to maintain the bowling activities of the club and upon whom the existence and future of the club depends.
