Coaching

Bowls instruction is available with courses for beginners, plus clinics available for more the more experienced player who wish to develop their game further.

Beginners
Courses of 4 x 2hr sessions are run on selected Saturday mornings from 10am, Thursday afternoons from 2.15pm and Friday afternoons from 4.20pm. The course follows the guidelines laid out in the Coach Bowls syllabus. After this course, individuals will be proficient enough to take part in ‘club friendlies’, ‘fun roll-ups’, and ‘club Leagues’.

Improvers clinics
Sessions are run, similar times to above when rinks and coaches are available, see coaching notice board. These sessions include: ‘improvement in line & length’, ‘consistency’, and exercises in ‘reading the head’.

Dress Code
The club’s dress code is relaxed for coaching sessions, but we do require all players to wear flat (no heels) shoes or trainers that are clean and ideally have not been worn outdoors. This is to protect the surface of the bowling green. Bowls are provided. A friendly and encouraging approach is adopted, while individuals decide whether the sport is for them or not. Prospective members can make full use of the catering and bar facilities.

Videos on YouTube
We recommend that potential new bowlers watch videos available on YouTube that are made especially for new bowlers by our resident coach Alec Sharman. These can be found at:

We particularly recommend the following: Video 1, 2, 5 & 19 for beginners, which will give you a good insight of what lawn bowls is all about.
